20 years ago I designed this loudspeaker/amplifier selector system (nowadays that would be 'solution' instead of system) for a hifi retail shop. The controler accepts remote control commands from a custom build remote control based on a sl486 chip. Output is 5 bit binary code, 1 output for the amplifier relay box and 1 output for the speaker relay box. There is an additional input for switches too.
The whole thing takes up 3 eurocards, 1 processorboard with eeproms and ram, 1 remote control and display board and 1 output board with 8255 peripheral interface chip.
Development was on a 5MHz XT PC with 640M ram and 10Mb hard disk. At the time I used a 8052 chip with onboard BASIC interpreter. The program is written in BASIC with assembly routines (cleverly disguised as BASIC commands) to drive the display.
I build 2 of these systems and both are still in daily use!
Pictures must be from 1989/1990, so yes that's vintage stuff.
The schematics were rather sketchy...
