hydro power

There is a nice set of panoramic views on hydropower plants on the energo-pro website.

These are all lovely buildings, there is not much hydropower in Belgium and I wondered if there also would be similar buildings. There are a few dams but their main purpose is to provide water, the surplus is then used to generate some power. Most of the power plants are well hidden, however I found one nice plant on flickr.

Bévercé power plant

This is the dam that feeds it.

The construction was completed in 1928. The powerplant is 5km from the dam and connected via a 2m wide conduit.

There are some details here (pdf in french). Quite funny, a hydropower plant and no water in sight..
