sansui 5050

I dumped this Sansui 5050 receiver, these things from the seventies are really getting old and this one was beyond repair. The supposed sound quality of this line of Sansui products is largely mythical. The later models with the black fronts perform much better and really worth keeping.

The dial needle is illuminated..

Detail of the needle lamp.

Thats because it's a 30 year old piece of equipment and all the electrolytic capacitors have dried out. Of course it doesn't sound great. Replace all of them and you've got a really fantastic sounding unit. But I suppose it's a litte late.. Sniff sniff :(

Glad to hear that there are still people around that care for this kind of gear. I do repair work for a retailer that sold these machines by truckloads at the time. Unfortunately you can't salvage them all (should you know how many we have scrapped you would come after me with a axe).
It had been gathering dust for the last 10 years as one of these never to be finished projects.
And yes, with pain in my hart...

Hopefully we can at least keep some of these old units alive. I'm still in my 20's so hopefully there is a new generation of people including myself who can appreciate this old gear.

You can't save them all.. but you can at least try :)
