end of an era

As of today the flemish public radio (VRT) no longer broadcasts on the medium waves. The remaining transmitter in Wolvertem on 927 kHz which was mainly used for sports and the international services shut down. Just for fun I made a short recording from a transistor radio, some football reporting on 26/12/2011.

The picture is from google streetview. I'm always amazed how difficult it is to spot something on the satellite view. It took me quite some time to find the site.

The french speaking counterpart RTBF still operates AM transmission on 621 kHz from their site in Wavre.
